Why a blog on Toledo, Ohio?

Why not?!? I was born in Toledo, Ohio. We moved to Iowa when I was eight, but we went back to Toledo to visit relatives every summer. When I started my first university job at Ball State University, my parents and brother moved back to Toledo. I still try to visit Toledo two or three times a year even though I have lived in northern California for thirty years. Toledo has a history that has always intrigued me. I listened to stories that my grandfathers told me while I sipped on a bottle of 7UP or Vernor's ginger ale and ate a real treat--a slightly spicy Slim Jim. Every summer my dad, mom, brother and I would drive east along Lake Erie to East Harbor to go swimming. We often stopped at Cheese Haven in Port Clinton on the way back home if it wasn't too late. Of course the big highlight of every summer was going to Cedar Point. I plan to take my grandson there for his sixth birthday.

I could go on and on, but I will do so in this blog by posting stories, quotations, photos, links, and snippets of history of Toledo and the surrounding area. If you have a story or a question about Toledo, Ohio please feel free to post them! I want people to realize that Toledo, Ohio rocks!

  1. Danny Thomas was a famous Toledoan. I remember faithfully watching his shows on television as a kid. This is episode 1 of season 1. Please go ahead and watch it on youtube.
