Why a blog on Toledo, Ohio?

Why not?!? I was born in Toledo, Ohio. We moved to Iowa when I was eight, but we went back to Toledo to visit relatives every summer. When I started my first university job at Ball State University, my parents and brother moved back to Toledo. I still try to visit Toledo two or three times a year even though I have lived in northern California for thirty years. Toledo has a history that has always intrigued me. I listened to stories that my grandfathers told me while I sipped on a bottle of 7UP or Vernor's ginger ale and ate a real treat--a slightly spicy Slim Jim. Every summer my dad, mom, brother and I would drive east along Lake Erie to East Harbor to go swimming. We often stopped at Cheese Haven in Port Clinton on the way back home if it wasn't too late. Of course the big highlight of every summer was going to Cedar Point. I plan to take my grandson there for his sixth birthday.

I could go on and on, but I will do so in this blog by posting stories, quotations, photos, links, and snippets of history of Toledo and the surrounding area. If you have a story or a question about Toledo, Ohio please feel free to post them! I want people to realize that Toledo, Ohio rocks!

John Denver - Saturday Night in Toledo, Ohio.

I love baseball. You might think that I like baseball, but I really looooooove baseball! Toledo has a team that became famous thanks to the television show "M*A*S*H" that was on the air from 1972 to 1983. Jamie Farr was from Toledo, Ohio, and the character he played, Max Klinger, was also from Toledo. Klinger referred to the local baseball team, the Toledo Mud Hens. I try to go to a Mud Hens home game whenever I visit my Toledo. The new stadium is downtown, giving a nice lift to downtown Toledo. Even though I live in California, I periodically check the official Mud Hens website to keep up with the team.
